Thing 11 Video Resource
I like showing one of the versions of the Did You Know Video (Shift Happens) to both students and staff. I showed it the entire staff last year during an ISE day I was doing on digital literacy. And I showed it again during the SVHS iPad class. What a great discussion starter!
But as much as the staff loved it, the students liked it even more. Most of them had no idea about how potentially far behind the United States has been falling and how competitive the global job market will be. Very eye opening and high recommended for both staff and (at least high school, possibly MS) students.

Thing 10 Digital Age Assessment
When I was student teaching a unit on the Roman empire for 9th grade world history I had students put "Rome" on trial to try to ascertain what the main reason was for the fall of the Western Roman empire. To make this more 21st century, I would love to have them make their case with a Prezi. Then I would love to have them do peer evaluations on Google Docs. To top it off (I am huge fan of student reflection), I would have them reflect on the activity in an ongoing blog as well (possibly Kidblog).
Thing Nine - Podcast, iTunes U Stanford University "Introduction to MacOSX, Cocoa Touch, Objective-C and Tools
Well I know absolutely nothing about app development, so I thought I would watch this introductory lecture on iTunes U after it got such good reviews. I have wanted to do an iPhone app for the school with the Techwolves, but I had no idea where to start. So I watched this one (it includes lecture video) to see if it would even be feasible. Eh, they break it down so well in here (plus I have been finding other resources) that I think that I could indeed do one myself when I get some "free" time this summer (bwaa hahahaha, yeah right!

Session 6: M. Claypool
http://www.classchatter.com/
I have really enjoyed blogging throughout this course! It is something that I encourage my teachers to incorporate, but I have not had many opportunities to take part in one myself. I think blogging is excellent for journaling or online discussions for students and teachers alike. I used class chatter to have a group of 5th graders blog back and forth with their facilitator throughout our distance learning project to Patagonia. Class chatter is a very user friendly site for classrooms at all levels.

wrong blog
I don't know if anyone from class is looking at my blog but the two posting you see - reflections and module 4 are from the Intel Essentials MT class I am taking at the present time. We blog daily and I wondered where two of my posts were and found them today in my web 2.0 class blog. I don't know if I can get my postings where they belong or not.
I apologize for my mis-postings.

Module 4
How can technology be used most effectively to support and assess student learning?
Technology is most effective when it supports and is a true part of the project or activity the student is working on. A teacher shuld never use technology in a lesson just to say he/she is using technology. The teacher should try and explore different tools to be sure what is effective for their students and make sure it is the right fit for the project and the students.

Module 2 Reflection
"This module has helped me think about using standards, CFQ's or formative assessment in the following ways..."
First and foremost assessment should provide the teacher with feedback about the students' knowledge and not just be empty testing that doesn't serve a purpose. Assessment can also provide information about student progress and also allow the students to feel positively about the learning process and themselves.

nm's session 1 post
One technology tool that I have used in my class is moviemaker. I had students to create a video commercial using propaganda then put it on moviemaker, which wasn't too successful the first semester, but by the second semester, I had a better handle on what I was doing, making it easier for us all. I think it impacted student learning in a couple of areas. First, they had to collaborate (each student had a specific role to fill) and they were able to draw on each others strengths and weakness. Ultimately, they ended up teaching each other skills. Secondly, because of the collaboration, they were able to research more thoroughly their targeted audience, purpose, propaganda technique, and product. They ended up learning more as a team as opposed to learning independently if I had made it an individual assignment,

Do you have similar goals/objectives for your students?
Session 5
Discuss your present plan for student safety on the Internet and for teaching students responsibility for safety and copyright issues.
